Filming for the movie Tulip Fever was due to conclude at Norwich Cathedral last night – as the production company revealed the stars involved in the scenes at the historic site and that some filming had also taken place in a second Norfolk location.

Dame Judi Dench, who plays the Abbess of St Ursula in the film, was among the actors at the cathedral, while Alicia Vikander (who was in Anna Karenina) was also confirmed as being in Norwich by a production company spokesman, as was Dane DeHaan (Chronicle), Jack O’Connell (300: Rise of an Empire), David Harewood (Homeland), and Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover).
The spokesman said the filming, which began at the cathedral on Thursday last week, was due to finish last night, and also said the production company had been to the Norfolk coast but that she was not able to reveal the specific location.
Set in 17th century Amsterdam, Tulip Fever is based on the novel by Deborah Moggach, who also penned the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
It tells the story of a married woman who begins a passionate affair with an artist hired to paint her portrait, and filming over the past few days has been taking place both inside the cathedral and in the cathedral cloister.
An array of trees and greenery have been brought into the cloister, along with some cows, geese and pigs, to conjure up the backdrop for the film, and many extras appear to have been cast to play the roles of nuns. Yesterday two horses and a carriage also arrived at the film set.
The film is directed by Justin Chadwick whose most recent films include Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and The Other Boleyn Girl.
Ruby Films’ Alison Owen (Saving Mr Banks) is producing the project with Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company, and Bob Weinstein is executive producing. While filming was due to conclude last night, some of the production company are expected to be at the cathedral until June 25.
After the leaving Norwich the film company will be returning to Pinewood Studios. Filming for Tulip Fever is also taking place at locations in Suffolk, Essex, Kent.
